Before Watergate consumed the nation, another scandal was unfolding in the Vice President's office. Spiro Is Great traces the arc of Spiro Agnew — from Baltimore County Executive to the second-highest office in the land to a quiet resignation that has been systematically forgotten.
Built on years of research across multiple archives — including the University of Maryland's Hornbake Library, the Nixon Presidential Library, and Frostburg State University — this series reconstructs the money trail, the grand jury leaks, and the political machinery that made Agnew's corruption possible and his erasure inevitable.
The patterns Agnew perfected — cash kickbacks, media warfare, weaponized populism — didn't disappear when he left office. They became the blueprint. This series draws a direct line from white envelopes in the VP's office to the political practices of today.
Series Structure
Agnew's rise from obscurity through Baltimore County to the Governor's mansion — and the machine that was already in motion.
